RIM Q3 results released

Research In Motion has released their Q3 results today. While the Profit figures continue to decline both shipments and customer base are on the up.

Here’s the round up….

RIM shipped 14.1 Million units and increased their customer base to 75 million people world wide, both up 33% over the last quarter.

Revenue was $5.2 Billion

Profit of $256 Million

150,000 PlayBooks shipped in the quarter

Cost of October outage: $54 Million

“RIM continues to have strong technology, unique service capabilities and a large installed base of customers, and we are more determined than ever to capitalize on our strengths to overcome the recent execution challenges surrounding product launches and the resulting financial performance,”

“It may take some time to realize the benefits of these efforts and the platform transition that we are undertaking, but we continue to believe that RIM has the right set of strengths and capabilities to maintain a leading role in the mobile communications industry.” stated co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis today.

While the figures were received poorly by the markets (RIM down 7%) the other figures are encouraging. As every Blackberry fan awaits the release of BB10 and the expected new devices, the sooner they both appear the more likely BlackBerry may be able to turn around their fortunes.
