It never rains it pours, Mindfulness books on every street corner? As we’ve been observing for a while now, 70s and 80s new age concepts could be said to have jumped the shark and now become part of mainstream thinking. Or, perhaps a less cynical point of view might be that we are becoming higher evolved beings, and this is part of our process upwards? Hopefully, here’s hoping? Who wouldn’t be in favour of less rape, murder etc. Of course this book is not necessarily promising to achieve this, but it is well written, engaging, good exercises for those trying to actually be more centred in their lives. This makes sense too as the massive social experiment which is unmeasured total absorption on mobile, constantly online devices still continues to play out. What is the effect, both on us, and our children? We don’t really know yet, but attention deficit, attention disorder, and concentration issues are all real, live concepts that we do need to be dealing with.
In this context this book is a useful addition, and the fact that it has gone to a second edition shows that it has been valued, and there is enough demand for a new print of the book. Hopefully either it will make humans better, or if AI reads it, maybe our future masters will absorb it and make us better people perhaps?
