Viatel announce phase two of 100G network upgrade

Viatel the pan-European full-service telecommunications operator which is part of the Digiweb Group has announced the completion of phase two of its 100G network upgrade in Europe. This major investment in Viatel’s European wide infrastructure is a Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) platform which is now fully operational for 10G, 40G and 100G services between Paris and Amsterdam.

Following the deployment of 100G services from London to Paris last year, this extension to the 100G upgrade of the network now enables 100G services from Paris to Amsterdam and London to Amsterdam via Brussels.

The upgrade provides an increase in Viatel’s network capacity along another very popular route. The use of electronic dispersion compensation technology means that Viatel customers will also benefit from a significant reduction in latency on the Paris to Amsterdam link.

The increased bandwidth services from Viatel enables businesses to support an ever increasing rise in internet traffic and bandwidth hungry web resources.

Colm Piercy, CEO at Viatel stated: “This upgrade to the Viatel network quadruples our capacity and is a clear response to address the growing demand for high bandwidth connectivity. Viatel will continue our investment programme across the markets that we operate in and this increased network capacity will enable us to further develop our range of flexible solutions.”

With data centres in Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels, Viatel also owns over 8,500km of fibre network infrastructure which it has equipped with high capacity optical DWDM technology and multi-service platforms.
