UGREEN has been steadily expanding its MagFlow range of magnetic wireless charging products, and its latest power bank introduces something we certainly haven’t seen in one before: liquid cooling.
The new UGREEN MagFlow Pro Magnetic Power Bank combines a 10,000mAh battery with Qi2 25-watt wireless charging and UGREEN’s new CryoPulse liquid-cooling system.
UGREEN describes it as the world’s first magnetic power bank to use a micro-pump liquid-cooling system, with the coolant actually visible through a transparent section of the casing. Certainly an interesting focal point for a power bank!
We recently reviewed UGREEN’s MagFlow Air power banks, which concentrated primarily on making magnetic charging lighter and easier to carry. The new MagFlow Pro goes in a rather different direction, concentrating on maintaining faster charging speeds while controlling one of the biggest problems associated with high-speed wireless charging: heat.
Despite containing a 10,000mAh battery and an active cooling system, the MagFlow Pro is just 16mm thick. UGREEN have managed to keep it quite thin and very close to their other 10,000mAh batteries.
The MagFlow Pro weighs in at 220 grams, which is perfectly reasonable for a power bank of this capacity and features.
The power bank is made of the same high-quality materials that UGREEN uses in the rest of the range. It feels great in your hand, and looks like it will stand the test of time.
The most distinctive feature is the transparent window, which allows you to see coolant circulating through the power bank.
The more cynical may describe it as a bit of a gimmick, but it is certainly unique, and it’s good to see the cooling in action.
There is also a small display on the right side, providing real-time charging information. What the screen displays can be changed with a press of the button, and there are a couple of screens to cycle through.
A USB-C charging cable is built directly into the power bank and doubles as a carrying strap when it isn’t being used.
The cable can supply up to 45 watts through a wired connection. It can also be used for charging the device. It is robust, made from a durable material, and is a genuinely useful addition to have.
The headline feature is UGREEN’s new CryoPulse cooling system.
Rather than relying entirely on passive cooling through the casing, a small pump circulates coolant inside the power bank.
This works alongside a vapour chamber/copper heat-spreading layer and a design which separates the charging components to reduce the concentration of heat inside the device.
Heat is particularly important with wireless charging. Energy lost during the transfer process ends up as heat, and as temperatures rise, phones and chargers can reduce charging power to protect their batteries and electronics.
UGREEN’s approach is therefore not simply about making the power bank more comfortable to hold. The aim is to keep temperatures low enough to allow the charger to maintain higher power levels for longer.
UGREEN says its testing kept an iPhone 17 Pro Max at around 38°C while charging at full Qi2 25W power, compared with an industry reference temperature of approximately 48°C.
Using an iPhone 17 Pro Max to test, with normal 25W wireless charging, we would often see the iPhone turn charging off and wait for the temperature to drop before enabling it again.
We test the charging multiple times, going from aprox 20% to 80% to see if there were any cutouts. During all of our testing, if the phone was idle when it started charging, it would get to 80% with no cutouts. The only times we noticed cutouts were when the phone was already warm from being under load. So if you were playing a game or watching a movie and then added the power bank to the mix, the phone was already close to being too hot.
For short charges, adding maybe 30%, the battery stays very cool to the touch. If you use power banks like this regularly, you will appreciate the difference the liquid cooling makes.
The MagFlow Pro supports the newer Qi2 25W wireless charging standard.
This allows compatible phones to charge considerably faster than older 7.5W and 15W magnetic wireless chargers.
UGREEN has supplied performance figures for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, although the pre-launch material we have received contains two different figures.
We tested the claim that you can add 50% to an iPhone 17 Pro Max in 40 minutes, and we found this to be pretty accurate. Like with the cooling, it can vary depending on what is happening on the phone and what temp it was at when you began. We saw one test add nearly 30% in 20 minutes, but when the phone was quite hot, we saw 60% taking close to an hour to add.
The cooling works well, but there are limitations to what it can achieve, and it is best suited to the phone being in an idle state when charing it beginning to get the best results.
The integrated USB-C cable can also supply up to 45 watts, giving the MagFlow Pro another option when charging speed is more important than the convenience of wireless charging.
We tested it out charging a number of devices which could display the power they were receiving via the USB-C cable, and we regularly saw 42 to 43 watts, which is exactly what you would expect.
This means the MagFlow Pro isn’t limited to devices capable of magnetic wireless charging and makes it a versatile power bank to bring along with you.
The internal battery has a rated capacity of 10,000mAh.
UGREEN is using high-density ATL battery cells along with its Dymondcell 2.0 protection technology.
ThermalGuard monitors conditions while charging and can adjust output when required to protect the battery and connected device.
As always, the stated 10,000mAh capacity should not be interpreted as meaning a 5,000mAh smartphone battery will receive exactly two complete charges. Conversion losses, operating voltage and wireless charging losses all reduce the amount of energy that ultimately reaches the phone.
But you will easily charge the latest flagship smartphones and still have some reserve left to top up your earphones or smartwatch.
Like all other UGREEN wireless chargers, the magnetic connection is excellent. It locates positively and stays connected with no fear of it falling off or even being knocked off accidentally.
The soft material used on the surface that attaches to your device is also excellent. IT is soft enough that it won’t damage your phone but not soft enough that dirt or debris stick to it easily.
The MagFlow Pro is MagSafe-compatible, although it should not be described as a MagSafe charger. Charging itself uses the Qi2 standard.
UGREEN has released another genuinely useful addition to their power bank and wireless charging range.
Power banks have largely become commodity products, so manufacturers need to do something genuinely different if they want a new model to stand out.
Putting a liquid-cooling system inside a 10,000mAh power bank certainly qualifies as different.
The more important question is whether it solves a real problem.
Wireless charging generates significantly more heat than charging through a cable, and higher charging speeds only makes thermal management more important. CryoPulse allows the MagFlow Pro to sustain its 25-watt wireless output for longer while keeping the phone noticeably cooler, and this is a practical benefit behind what initially may sound like a headline-grabbing feature.
The combination of 10,000mAh capacity, 25W Qi2 charging, 45W wired output and the integrated cable also means the MagFlow Pro has plenty to offer beyond its cooling system.
