There is a problem that we need to talk about in business. Many people know about it. In a way it’s a scandal. But few have faced up to admitting it, never mind solving it.
We spend £280 billion on learning and development across the globe every year. But new statistics show that only 12 per cent of corporate employees ever embed that learning by turning it into concrete actions which help the performance of their business. In such a cost conscious, cut-throat, competitive world how can we continue to ignore such a waste?
This problem is exacerbated further in the virtual world. We need to ensure that the journey doesn’t end when we leave the workshop and go back to work.
Our solution is a new methodology and a new technology which drives the learning into everyday actions and through that process transforms the performance of individuals and their teams.
In creating our new mindset and refining our new approach we turned to the world of the Olympic Champion. We looked at how they take the improvements they want to make and drum them into new habits by focusing on the process; acting consistently; and avoiding distraction.
This led us to a new six step process which we use to help develop leadership and embed the training. It is backed up with the game changing Nudge technology which provides daily reminders to encourage participants to act on the knowledge they’ve acquired.
The process begins at the end of our inspiring workshops.
STEP ONE – Before anyone exits our Masterclasses, we work with them to be very clear on their goal as they go back into work mode.
STEP TWO – We break that goal down into small, achievable everyday actions which will shift you towards your goal. We load them into our Nudge app which now becomes a virtual academy and a powerful coach in the weeks and months to come. The Nudges prompt and encourage our participants to remind them to consistently deliver these actions.
STEP THREE – Our technology tracks and measures individual and team progress as the learning is put into action. These measurements are made available to the individuals and can also be made available further around the business as they prove the return on investment.
STEP FOUR – It is essential that each individual stays accountable and supported. We do this by making a virtual coach available throughout the programme. Participants dial up with a click and have daily or weekly check ins with their coach for challenge and support.
STEP FIVE – Through this coaching everyone is encouraged to stay focused on what will shift the dial. The enemy of progress is distraction. Our virtual coaching constantly addresses this and the many other traps into which leaders fall with ease.
STEP SIX – We praise our participants and encourage them to celebrate all the small wins they make – to encourage them on the journey to Gold.
It is time to change the way we do learning and development. Our new methodology and technology aim to move the old approaches into the new world of work.
We can’t keep wasting money and wasting opportunity. With the pace and scale of change which all our businesses face, we need to reimagine how we do learning and development.
The time to do that is now.
