Tweets To Start Appearing In Google Search On Mobile

This article originally appeared on 60 Second Social.

Google and Twitter have finally announced that they are teaming up to make your tweets more searchable. Tweets will start appearing in mobile searches on browsers in iOS and Android apps, tweets will start appearing on desktop searches at a later time.

This means that when you search for a particular handle, for example “NASA Twitter”, you will see that account and the most recent tweets at the top of the search page. Hashtags and other trending topics will appear in Google results.

“It’s a great way to get real-time info when something is happening,” says Ardan Arac, Google’s Senior Product Manager, on its blog. “It’s another way for organizations and people on Twitter to reach a global audience at the most relevant moments.”

For Twitter, it means that they will have scope to reach a larger audience, this has been a part of the problems that the company has run in to and as Google is still the overwhelmingly dominant search engine it means that tweets will now be displayed to a dominant user base. Of course it also means that you should be thinking before you tweet more than ever before too, it will be now easier than ever to find your tweets thanks to Google.

Twitter has introduced several new changes to appeal to people who have not yet signed up to the service, from a redesigned homepage for logged out users to promoting tweets in Flipboard and now striking a deal to have tweets appear in Google Search.

To go along with the integration of tweets in Google Search, Twitter also made their new improved search page available for all users early this week which we covered yesterday. Bing rolled out a similar feature last year to have tweets appearing in their searches.

Google is gradually rolling out the ability to see tweets in searches this week, support for other languages and countries will follow at a later date however there is no timeline for those new languages at present.
