How to adapt and refocus your business in Corona times, Daniel Ramamoorthy

Unemployed but Undeterred

When news of the coronavirus started spreading across the globe, Daniel Ramamoorthy knew he was in trouble. A professional speaker who hosts events from college campuses to TEDx to some of the biggest technology conferences in the world, he knew that such public gatherings would come to a screeching halt. And they did.

DanRam (as he is more popularly known) had in the previous 2 years built a globally recognized brand of hosting the world’s most notable trailblazers like President Barack Obama, billionaire founder Sir Richard Branson, Formula1 champion Nico Rosberg, FIFA World Cup winning captain Philip Lahm, Hollywood royale like Jessica Alba and many other changemakers. But the lockdown changed everything.

Retreating to his parents’ home in a secluded colony in Coimbatore, South India DanRam was back at ground zero. The son of an Indian diplomat, adapting to new situations is in his DNA. While on the phone with him he broke down his process for adapting – “Three basic steps! First, you mourn what you leave behind. Second, you engage in fresh ways for what is presently in front of you. And finally, you position yourself for future opportunities that lie ahead of you”.

And that is how the “The Daily Show with DanRam” was born. Using a basic internet connection, a household lamp, and a 2 year old laptop, he started livestreaming directly from his bedroom to the world. A simple format including an interview with a special guest, riddles & challenges, matchmaking in a segment called “Meet your Coronamate” and ending with a singalong on the piano, DanRam’s heart is to bring into every bedroom and living room a little hope, joy and some insights on how live well even in the midst of chaos.

His guests are a combination of everyday individuals and families navigating this new world as well as expert advise from his impressive network like billionaire founder of Priceline.com Jeff Hoffman and 3x Grammy winner Kevin Olusola. And unlike his normal ticketed events that draw 1000s of participants, these livestreams are totally for free and viewers can ask questions directly to his guests.

DanRam ended by saying “New challenges provide new opportunities for new growth”. In just two weeks “The Daily Show with DanRam” is now seen on 5 continents across the globe. This simple but impactful initiative is proof of DanRam’s motto – Start Now Start Simple. To catch DanRam and his guests, tune in everyday at 9pm IST on Facebook, Youtube or Twitter by following @iamdanram. For more information on DanRam you can see his website (www.iamdanram.com).
