Qualtrics Campaign Creates New Research Post for Breakthrough Cancer Research

Over €100,000 has been raised by the Qualtrics led 5 For The Fight campaign for Breakthrough Cancer Research (Breakthrough) in Ireland. This significant first milestone has been reached less than six months after Qualtrics launched its partnership with Breakthrough, and will allow the charity to hire a new full-time researcher.

This new position will be a fellowship launched in memory of Qualtric’s late chairman Dermot Costello, who passed away in January just weeks after participating in the campaign’s launch. The Dermot Costello Cancer Immunology Research Fellowship will form part of Breakthrough’s 3-year tumour immunology programme and applications for the post are now open.

Speaking of the achievement, Orla Dolan, CEO of Breakthrough says, “We are absolutely amazed at what Qualtrics has been able to do in just a couple of months. Dermot is sadly missed but in spending his final weeks kick-starting this campaign he has created a legacy that will help people and continues to inspire so many more.

“It is our hope that this research will play a vital part in honouring the legacy of a man who always gave more than he took.”

The successful awardee of the Dermot Costello Cancer Immunology Fellowship will lead a research team to identify and deliver ways to harness the immune system to eliminate cancer from the body. The award also provides funding for a postgraduate student and research assistant.

Now that we have reached the milestone of hiring for the fellowship we are motivated to push on and do more to honour our colleague and friend, Dermot. This is just the start and the more we can raise, the more people we can hire to help accelerate this project.”
