Over 140 attendees packed The Building Block last Thursday evening for the first ever ‘Tech Life Balance ‘event organised by IDA Ireland. The event was created to highlight the growing tech sector in the North West and feature some of the current roles available and in the pipeline. The event hosted three key companies and invited guests to hear more about the roles on offer and meet the senior staff face to face.
Guests were greeted on arrival by a showcase of some of Sligo’s finest products including The White Hag Brewery, Carrow Coffee and Sligo Food trail. They then heard from online retailer Overstock.com, ecommerce giant Shopify and global software company LiveTiles who last week announced that it will establish an Intelligent Innovation Centre in Sligo to support the further development of its design and artificial intelligence (AI) products. The event was also live streamed on the Look West Facebook page for those who couldn’t make it to Sligo and was viewed by over 150 people who engaged and asked questions via online chat.
Speaking after that event, Regional Business Development Manager for the IDA North West Region John Nugent said: “This evening gave us an opportunity to showcase some of the great roles on offer here at present and to highlight the proposition that we are selling internationally for the North West. All three companies have some exciting openings for developers, solutions architects, marketing managers, data scientists, java developers and sales. From a regional perspective we at IDA Ireland are working hard to attract these high value companies to the North West in order to diversify our workforce and offer people who have moved away to places like Dublin, London and other cities a chance to return in the near future. It was fantastic to see the high turnout; at one stage each company had a line of people waiting to meet them, some with CV’s in their hands.”
