The Verifeye Media Pro Camera iOS app, launched today on the App Store, is a professional-standard video and still camera, enabling users to shoot, send, and sell eyewitness videos and photos from breaking news events worldwide – and allowing media outlets to trust and licence the content from the Verifeye Media newswire.
The growing demand for eyewitness reports from broadcasters and publishers is undeniable: breaking news is now reported first by those present, whether they are professional journalists immersed in a story in a far-flung land, or quick thinking bystanders caught up in terrible events.
Co-founder John D McHugh, a veteran war photographer and filmmaker, explains:
“Verified eyewitness media, either video or photo, is a mainstay of modern news reporting. Eyewitness media is not the future of journalism, it is the now. Every person with a smartphone is a potential newsgatherer, and Verifeye Media is positioning itself to represent them all, a truly global news agency, verifying and curating the most important stories in the world.”
The Verifeye Media Pro Camera features standard industry icons to ensure ease of use, and offers on-screen control of Focus, Exposure, Shutter Speed, White Balance, and ISO, delivering intuitive manual control to aid the creative processes of filmmaking and photography on an iPhone.
The innovative app harnesses the power and value of metadata to expedite verification in real time. By gathering time, date, geo-location, altitude, and compass bearing, Verifeye Media is able to offer news desks not only video footage or photographs, but a degree of contextualization, including visualization on maps, which no other news agency can.
The app has been developed by Verifeye Media, a technology-driven visual news agency founded by John D McHugh and Feargal Finnegan. McHugh is an award-winning photojournalist and filmmaker with 18 years experience in media and publishing, and Finnegan has over 20 years experience in technology start-ups.
