By @SimonCocking. We found more about LavaCon Conference The LavaCon Conference on Content Strategy and TechComm Management 21–24 May 2017 Dublin, Ireland 5–8 November 2017 Portland
When is it on?
LavaCon Conference is on 22-25 May 2017 at the Croke Park Conference Center. Register for tickets here.
How many years has it been going?
15 years in the US, 2 years in Ireland
What was the inspiration to start it?
LavaCon was originally held in Hawaii (hence our name). Jack Molisani, the conference Executive Director, wanted to attend a conference that focused on multichannel content strategy and user experience (more than just web content). Also missing was a place to learn “soft skills” like how to build a business case for resources, overcoming office politics, and workplace negotiation skills. He couldn’t find a conference that covered that, so he started one.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 version?
We have an amazing lineup of speakers, including the Sr. Manager of Content Management at Amazon.com and the Senior User Experience Architect at LEGO Group.
What opportunities are on offer for people / startups / investors and companies attending?
LavaCon is different from other conferences in that we don’t bring in “learned professors” who stand in front a room telling you what you should do. Instead, LavaCon is a gathering place for practicing content and UX professionals who are willing to share their best practices and lessons learned (both what worked, and what didn’t). It’s a place where high-tech professionals can enhance their skills, find their tribe, and make a difference.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
We have found that attendees make lasting professional connections at our networking and social events, so remember to bring your business cards. Also, LavaCon is very interactive, so be ready to participate and share your own lessons learned. LavaCon is a great place to share tribal knowledge.
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
We normally sell out about two weeks before the conference, so there is still time to register .
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
All sessions are recorded for later play back and we have an interactive virtual track with live streaming video and chat rooms. So even if you can’t make it to Dublin, you can participate remotely!
