So many of you are anticipating if not salivating for the launch of iPhone 5 but what about the rest of the iPhone users who are not upgrading their device to Cupertino’s latest offering? What can you expect from iOS5 (currently in Beta 8 on Apple’s developer program)

 

 

 

 

 

Notifications will be real time and on screen, accessible from a drop down menu like on Android or BlackBerry OS’s

 

iMessage will be Apple’s attempt to corner the instant messaging market. This is definitely an attempt to tease fans of BBM away from their BlackBerry’s

 

iCloud will also be available. This will allow you to access files remotely over the air (but for non US citizens it won’t let you access your music, at least initially), wireless backup and restore too

 

WiFi synchronisation with iTunes

OTA (Over the air) updates

 

Newsstand, which will allow access to your magazine subscriptions

Improvements to Safari browser

 

Twitter integration

 

Fully customisable notifications for calendar, call, texts and email etc…

 

Facetime over 3G (carrier permitting)

 

Youtube will now stream HD over 3G

 

You’ll be able to use your device while it’s syncing

 

Customisable dictionary

 

Typing shortcuts i.e. ttyl = talk to you later

 

 

Apple’s Web site states that the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3rd generation, iPod touch 4th generation, iPad and iPad 2 as well as the iPhone 5, will be compatible with iOS5. So tell us, will this be enough to tide you over if you’re not getting the iPhone 5, or are you know considering switching to iPhone in light of these iOS enhancements?
