Get inspired with these winning photos from the Mobiography Awards Competition

There is a saying in photography that the best camera you have is the one that is with you and when you see the range and quality of the winning images in the inaugural Mobiography Awards Competition you can easily see why that is true. That smartphone camera we all carry around with us really is capable of capturing truly awesome photographs.

Mobiography Awards Winning Photos

Just look at some these stunning shots from the thousands of images entered into Mobiography Awards.

The Mobiography Awards set out to be more than just another photography competition. The founders – all photographers themselves – wanted to position learning at the centre of the competition and during the entry period they put on 5 live online shows. These sessions provided a range of photography masterclasses from highly-acclaimed photographers from around the world. You can watch them all for free here.

The competition had four categories: Street and urban; people and portraits, landscape and nature; and digital art. There was also a Moving Pictures award judged by main sponsors, Luma Touch.

The overall winner was Laurence Bouchard – an Englishman living in Tokyo. Laurence’s work is eye-catching, not only in the execution, but in the artistic vision to compose and create such dynamic and visually engaging photographs. Mark Fearnley, one of the judges when asked about Laurence’s work said:

“This artist for me stood tall from the rest with there consistency in composition and the use of light. I love the way they use geometry and shapes in there work too.”

Smartphone photography has come a long way since they first appeared on the clam shell flip phones of old. The latest iterations of smartphone cameras are packed with more power and capable of producing better quality that an entry-level DSLR. But still the most important thing about photography is not the device which captures the image, but the vision of the photographer to first see and then craft the composition. The Mobiography Awards celebrates that and in their category winners and overall winner Laurence Bouchard it is certainly evident.

Here is a selection of some of Laurence’s winning portfolio.
