Interesting interview with Ron Immink
What is your own background briefly?
I am a Dutch/Irish and now Spanish entrepreneur with extensive experience in the areas of (social) entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, strategy, innovation and SME engagement in a large variety of clients. I am also best-selling author (one of his books sold 125,000 copies).
So far I wrote 15 books (some are about other books) cover topics such as business planning, strategy, future trends, social media, innovation, resilience and sense-making. I recently added up all the books I read and it adds up to about 10,000. If you want my background in two words, it would be book nerd or entreprenerd.
Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?
I help people to write their own business book, I am involved in running a number of intrapreneurship projects and companies to develop their story and coach entrepreneurs, so that would be a resounding yes.
How was the last 12 months?
About 6 months ago decided to focus on my passion, and that is books. My main focus is a service called a book in 8 days and that service has opened a lot of doors, with lots of interesting projects falling out of it. With Sustainable Nation, we finally got the intrapreneurship accelerator off the ground and that is also exciting. Obviously Corona has had an impact, but it has also created a lot of opportunities, including the ability to do most of my work remotely from sunny Spain.
1 min pitch for what you are doing now?
Books are a new business card. If you want to raise your profile, enhance your reputation and increase your earning capacity. You should write a book. Every year I help 15 clients to write a compelling business book, using a unique approach that combines travel, culture, food with writing a book. Four two day mini retreats combined with online coaching. Always starting with a strategic and commercial plan behind the book, so that we are clear on what we want to achieve.
Why did you get involved with Intrapreneurship, Climate and the Future?
I have been the entrepreneur in residence for Sustainable Nation for several years. A year ago we changed that to intrapreneur in residence. We realised that start up are too slow to scale and that if we wanted true climate impact, we had to focus on the larger companies and in particular on the sectors who deploy the capital to finance the climate solutions. So with climate-KIC, we created an intrapreneurship accelerator for the insurance, banking and fintech sector, focussing on the 90 trillion climate change business opportunity.
It is a programme where, through internal idea mining, ongoing selection and assessment, combined with a top-class business development programme, companies can safely explore the opportunities and develop new products and services. Within the commercial, regulatory and risk parameters that they have set themselves. With access to a European network that is second to none in expertise and connectivity. An ongoing product development pipeline. The programme does not stop until the first commercial product is launched.
How can people find out more about you personally & your work?
I have a website https://ronimmink.com/ and people can follow me on LinkedIn.
Who and where do you get inspiration from?
As you would expect I get a lot of inspiration from books, but I am also in the lucky circumstance that I have the pleasure to work with people who are at the top of their game. For example Stephen Nolan, Bernd Mintjes, Tibor Olgers, Aideen O’Hora, the people in Strategycrowd and the people I write the books with. From them I am getting master classes in digital transformation, athlete branding, high vibrational leadership, system thinking, organisational development, quantum millennials, hypnoses for entrepreneurs, innovation, special forces, etc.
Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?
If people think Corona is bad, wait for the impacts of climate change. Corona is the dress rehearsal and only an accelerator of change. Climate change will force us to change our business model much more fundamentally. Now is the time to reconfigure your business model and if you do not make sustainability an integral part of that, your business will be destroyed by the next crisis, that is inevitably coming. Polluters will start paying for climate damage at restorative cost. That is after carbon tax, paying full water charges and getting sued.
Intrapreneurship is a perfect instrument for this and not only for the banking, insurance and fintech sector.
