Game Of Thrones is creating a huge spike in “Bleisure” trips

Bookings to GoT locations have risen dramatically since the eighth series of the show was released, global ground transportation company Talixo said.

The show’s popularity combined with Talixo providing pre booked ground transportation for many of the worlds largest companies, travel agencies and online travel platforms, has created large demand in Spain, Ireland, Croatia, and Iceland.
Northern Ireland, the real-life setting of Winterfell, is by far the most popular country with business and leisure travellers booking transport to Castle Ward in County Down, Ballintoy Harbour and Cushendun Caves in County Antrim and Downhill Strand in County Derry.
Talixo’s Chief Commercial Officer Henry Joseph-Grant said: “I have to confess I haven’t yet watched any Game of Thrones episodes myself, but it’s no surprise that people who have an affinity and love of the show are maximising their “Bleisure” time on business trips to go in search of these beautiful, unique locations, especially those in Ireland. I was born in County Derry and I know very well the vast outstanding natural beauty across the entire island, be it the Antrim coast, Killarney National Park, The Cliffs of Moher or the Sperrin mountains, Ireland is breathtaking.”
Spain is a close second with bookings, the Berlin based startup said.
Filming locations there include the gardens of The Alcazar in Seville, which were transformed into the Water Gardens of Dorne; Plaza de Toros in Osuna, an old bullring which was the setting for a gladiator arena; and the amphitheatre at Italica which was the location for scenes in the season seven finale.
Business Travellers generated the highest volume of bookings, followed by leisure travellers.
Joseph-Grant continued “We provide ground transportation in over 130 countries, so I hope GoT lovers continue the journey with Talixo for their corporate and personal transportation needs. “Bleisure” users is a trend we expect to see grow massively over the coming years, what is also positive to see is the number of Irish based travellers using Talixo across the world”
Talixo provide turnkey ground transportation solutions for many of the worlds largest corporates, airlines and online travel platforms, including Expedia, Skyscanner and C Trip, they don’t provide ad hoc ride hailing services like UBER or MyTaxi, instead offering only pre booked transportation via partnerships  with fully licensed and insured local fleets in each of the 130 countries they operate in, interestingly also providing SaaS which the fleets use to run their business.
The company was founded in 2012 in Berlin and has so far raised $12.27 million from investors such as Deutsche Bahn (Europes largest Railway operator), TA Capital, Swiss Engineering firm Ammann Group and Several Swiss family offices.
