Free Special Olympics App launched by Dell

Dell and Special Olympics Ireland today announced the availability of a free Smartphone App designed by the team at Dell to support the Special Olympics Ireland Games in Limerick from June 12th – 15th. The App is available on Android at present with an iOS version due for release closer to the Games. It has a range of features including a location mapping function that enables users to identify where the different events are being held. The App also has a donation function which makes it easy to donate to the Special Olympics. In addition the App allows users to keep updated on latest news around the games and information on all the participating athletes.

Matt English, CEO with Special Olympics Ireland said: “The support from Dell across a range of areas in the build-up to 2014 Games has been absolutely fantastic. The phone application was created by Dell by developers who volunteered their own time to get this project over the line. This application has already allowed us to reduce our print cost in the run up to the Games. During the Games it will allow us to reach our audience who are accessing information through their mobiles and it will be the first time our sports results will be available such an interactive and time effective manner.”

In addition to the design and development of the app Dell employees are volunteering their time to support a number of initiatives through a mixture of manpower, technology support and access to storage space at the Dell Limerick facility.

Speaking about Dell’s involvement Timmy O’Dwyer, Dell Site Leader for Limerick said: “The Dell team from Cork, Dublin and Limerick are delighted to come together to do all that we can to support this important event happening here in Limerick this summer. This partnership is a real example of the value that the team at Dell can provide to an organisation like the Special Olympics. It is great that our Limerick campus will play such a central role for the success of the Games – it is adding to the buzz and the excitement as we move into the final stages of preparing for the Games. We’re delighted to have so many employees involved in so many different aspects. Today I’d encourage people to download the app and support the Games.
