By @SimonCocking

Ireland’s Drone Industry will receive a boost this year as the Drone Expo takes place in the RDS between the 1-3 April 2016. Drone Expo Ireland is aiming to connect startups, investors and existing drone operators across Ireland’s budding drone industry and increase awareness of drones and their safe use to the general public.

Drone Expo Ireland will feature:
50+ Exhibitors to the industry
Drone Racing Championship

Speakers on the first day of the expo include:
Ralph James, Director of Safety Regulation , Irish Aviation Authority
John Wright, Chairperson, Unmanned Aircraft Association of Ireland;
Gearoid O’Brien, Chief Flight Instructor, IFLY Technology;
Raymond Friel, Director of Research, University of Limerick;
Prof. Cormac Sreenan of the Tyndall Institute.

Outdoor Drone Demonstrations

The drone industry in Ireland has seen rapid growth as technology has become increasingly available. The IAA recently estimated the number of drones in Ireland at 4,000, however, with a surge in consumer sales ahead of last year’s Christmas period the figure could now be as high as 8,000. The number of commercial operators has also increased from 17 from July 2014 to 88 by the end of 2015.

Drone Expo Ireland will host 50+ drone related exhibitors, such as operators, aerial photographers, science and research institutes, surveyors, training schools, manufacturers, professional associations, public services and mapping specialists.

Event organisers will look to boost the general public’s knowledge and understanding through showcasing the capabilities of drones at the event. One such event includes Drone Racing organised by FPV-Ireland (first person view) that will take place over the weekend.

Ian Kiely, Drone Expo Ireland organiser said “We’ve put together an exciting three days of drone racing, demonstrations and talks for the general public to see and learn what drones can do. We’ll also have a packed schedule of industry talks on the first day for Exhibitors including presentations from the Irish Aviation Authority. It will be a great weekend for businesses and all levels of drone enthusiasts”.

Drone Expo Ireland is open from the 1 April for businesses and end users €25 covers both entry and the presentations. The general public are welcome from 2 April with admission for individuals costing €15.00, family passes €35, U12s and students €8. Exhibition stands for the expo start at €480+VAT.
