PayPal donates over €25,000 to Irish charities

PayPal today announced that it has presented five Irish charities with more than €25,000 in funding through PayPal Gives, PayPal’s corporate advised fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation, which supports and recognises PayPal employees who participate in charitable giving, volunteering and fundraising opportunities. Age Action Ireland, Arc Cancer, Barretstown, Foróige and Young Social Innovators will each receive approximately €5,500 to support local projects.

The charities were nominated by PayPal employees at its Blanchardstown and Dundalk offices. In the past 12 months the company has donated €120,000 to Irish charities.

PayPal has 27 GIVE Teams globally that are distributing approximately $700,000 in grants this year. The GIVE Team grants in Ireland were presented to the chosen charities by Dan Schulman, President and CEO of PayPal, and Louise Phelan, PayPal’s Vice President of Global Operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Dan Schulman said: “At PayPal, we firmly believe in making the world a better place and are constantly focused on helping charities and communities across the globe.  I’m very proud to witness first-hand the great work being carried out in Ireland by PayPal, and it’s been a real privilege to meet each of the wonderful charities. I hope that our support can help to make a real and lasting difference for each of these organisations.”

Louise Phelan said: “We’re always looking for ways we can contribute to our local communities and these latest donations reflect that. These charities were chosen because they’re dear to our employees’ hearts. There’s a terrific spirit of generosity in PayPal and it’s thanks to our teammates that we can continue to support such worthy causes. All of our chosen charities do amazing work and we’re delighted to be able to make a positive impact.”

Rachel Collier, CEO, Young Social Innovators, which received a PayPal Gives grant said; “We are delighted to receive this support which will offer increased opportunities to young people in the local communities in which PayPal are based. Engaging young people in social innovation not only benefits communities but it builds 21st century skills bridging a gap between education and work which is to the benefit of everyone.”
