Cubic Telecom signs landmark deal with Japanese internet services provider ‘Rakuten’

Global connectivity provider Cubic Telecom has partnered with Japanese internet services company Rakuten to deliver an international connectivity solution.   Responding to consumer demand for a competitive and robust SIM solution, “The Rakuten Global Travel SIM” will go on sale in March 2016.  The partnership offers users competitive rates as they travel from country to country, connecting to the Tier 1 networks anytime, anywhere.

This partnership between Irish tech leader Cubic Telecom, and Japanese internet services company, Rakuten, sparks a new era of global connectivity options for Japanese consumers travelling abroad.  The easy-to-use SIM pack, which is compatible with Rakuten Mobile’s wide range of mobile devices, can be purchased online and through the Rakuten Mobile shops.  The connectivity service allows users to choose from a range of price packages on voice, text and data to suit their travel plans.

The connectivity solution is enabled by Cubic’s cutting edge technology and agreements with Tier 1 mobile operators world-wide, ensuring optimum access speeds.  Branded as ‘Rakuten Mobile Global SIM’, Cubic is providing a customised white label platform and portal to enable Rakuten Mobile customers register, manage their own customised price plans, access data bundles, and purchase prepaid plans.

Barry Napier, CEO of Cubic Telecom commented, “We are very excited to be able to provide connectivity to the customer base of one of Japan’s largest internet services companies.  The product is so easy to use and provides predictability and cost control to the end user.”

The Cubic Telecom solution is distinguished from conventional Mobile Operator solutions by providing freedom, flexibility and full control to the Rakuten brand.  This includes simple and easily modified pricing across global territories and customized client apps and portals across a number of software environments.

Yasufumi Hirai, Executive Vice President and Representative Director of Rakuten commented, “Cubic Telecom is providing our customers with an innovative connectivity solution that enables Rakuten customers to have easy access to data wherever they travel.   We are happy to partner with Cubic and look forward to strengthen our strategic alliance partnership.”

The Rakuten Global Travel SIM will hit Rakuten Mobile stores in March 2016. For more information on Cubic Telecom please visit www.cubictelecom.com
