Silicon Valley’s Breakthrough Prize Foundation and the Grand Luxury watch and jewellery Maison Chopard, today announced a special collaboration in support of fundamental science. As an element of the partnership, Chopard will create special jewellery pieces for the 2019 Breakthrough Prize laureates, to be presented ahead of the seventh annual “Oscars of Science” event on Sunday, November 4. All previous and future Breakthrough Prize laureates, as well as junior researchers honored with the New Horizons Prize, will also receive these symbols of recognition.
All eight of the 2019 Breakthrough Prize laureates, as well as the winner of the 2018 Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, will be featured at the gala ceremony, which will be hosted by acclaimed actor, producer, philanthropist, and Navan Man Pierce Brosnan and air live on National Geographic. Chopard, the Artisan of Emotions, will mark the occasion by presenting the accomplished men and women of science with exceptional pairs of earrings, cufflinks, and pins. Crafted in the Maison’s workshops in ‘Fairmined’-certified 18ct white ethical gold, the array features dancing blue sapphires, yellow sapphires, and tsavorites, respectively, for each of the physics, mathematics, and life sciences laureates.
The event brings together stars of the screen, stage, stadium and Silicon Valley to celebrate science and scientific achievement. This year’s celebrity guests will include musical performers Lionel Richie and G.E.M., and presenters Orlando Bloom, Ron Howard, Thandie Newton, Lupita Nyong’o, Zoe Saldana, and long-term friend of Chopard, Academy Award winner Julianne Moore.
The November 4 ceremony will be held at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California and be live-streamed on the Facebook and YouTube platforms of National Geographic and the Breakthrough Prize Facebook and YouTube platforms.
