TryTheTrend is a styling service for men who hate shopping. We help guys to reduce time and effort spent on choosing their clothes by sending a box full of handpicked designer clothing to their doorstep.
All you have to do is go through a quick style questionnaire on the TryTheTrend platform and this then creates a style profile for your individual unique tastes and needs. You are then assigned a personal stylist from the TryTheTrend Style team who will put together outfits that are sent you to try as often as you wish.
How are you different?
We are different in that currently no company in Ireland is offering a unique tailored service like this. There has been a huge amount of research that has gone into online retail in recent years and all the evidence points to one thing. Guys don’t enjoy shopping! We realised that there is a need in Ireland for another method outside of the traditional shopping experience (online & instore) Our mix of tech and human expertise via our style team means that we are providing the perfect solution to men who find shopping for clothing in the traditional ways frustrating.
Why will you do well?
The vast amount of guys out there do not enjoy shopping for clothing. However we believe a service like Try The Trend is needed now more than ever. We live in an increasingly fashion and image conscious society. Whether we like it or not the old saying that first impressions last is more relevant today than ever before! Whether it’s what you’re wearing to an important business meeting or on a first date! Guys need to know that they are presenting themselves consistently well and in a way that puts the best version of themselves in front of others. TryTheTrend helps them to do this!!

We are based in Dublin, Ireland.
When was the company launched?
TryTheTrend.com was officially launched in October of 2017 after a number of months previously spent developing, testing and refining the platform.
What have been your biggest wins to date?
We have had a few!
The first really big one was getting Ian Lucey of Lucey Fund on-board as an early stage investor. This was amazing as it validated the business concept and that there was indeed potential to launch Try The Trend in Ireland. It also meant that we could fill some knowledge gaps with expertise from the Lucey fund team, allowing us to concentrate on what we do best.
Other wins were securing some top brands and some key hires we made along the way!
Who are you trying to attract to your product?
Our target market is guys who don’t enjoy the traditional shopping experience. whether that’s because they are a little bit less fashion engaged and don’t feel 100% comfortable when selecting items, right through to guys who are living busy lives and simply don’t have the time to go out and physically shop for clothing.

What tips would you give to others looking to build their business?
I would say launch early! It’s important to actually test your business idea on real customers and see what their reactions are to your product/service. It’s important to do the research and test on real people before you develop, it is vital otherwise your spending money based on assumptions and often assumptions can be wrong.
Tell us about your team?
We have a Fantastic team which includes myself, Niall Kelly and Ross Kelly the Co-founders between us we have over 20 years’ experience in retail online and physical. Additionally, we both also hold sales and financial experience within fortune 500 organisations.
Additionally, we have our style team which consists of experienced stylists who are pivotal to determining the needs and selections for our users.
Finally, we have a number of resources available to us from Lucey Fund in the form of marketers, Project managers, developers, designers and more!
What are your long term plans?
Our long term plans include to continue to our development and growth and expand within the Irish market, with a close eye being kept on further Geographic expansion in the not too distant future.
We also plan to continue iterating and improving our customer experience and the value we can bring our users through constant innovation and relentless attention to customer service.
What are your favourite tech gadgets?
Very boring answer but My iPhone, I would be lost without it. Keeps me up to date with my Business when I’m on the go!
