By @SimonCockingThe Good Till Co  UK based Point of Sale systems provider. A tablet based iPad POS Platform for Restaurants, Retail & Coffee Shops.

Describe the company – the elevator pitch…

By combining a tablet computer with some smart software and stylish hardware, The Good Till Company offers a solution that is not only more user-friendly for both staff and customers, but also enables retailers to access the kind of data and intelligence that give big businesses a competitive advantage at a fraction of the price. Utilising user-friendly flexible software and cloud technology, our solution bridges the gap between offline stores and online data, going beyond simply taking payments to become a source of business intelligence that helps ensure business operations run efficiently.

How are you different?

We aim to differentiate ourselves from the very competitive market, by the technology that we use and how we develop our software.  For example the software is developed entirely around a cross section of live businesses who initially used the system and provided a constant feedback loop.  The other emphasis has been on simplicity (which is actually very hard to achieve), robustness and integration with other business applications.  Finally our focus on customer service – we don’t outsource our helpdesk and we invest heavily in this area.  Equally, we don’t outsource our installation support.  This is all done in house, with models to support our customers as swiftly as possible and to be as available as possible.

Why will the company do well?

All of the above!  Seriously though, the software has to work and fit the needs of our various verticals that we support (retail, hospitality etc.) and is constantly evolving.  It is because we own and maintain the software in house that means we can be agile and create a user friendly, feature rich product.  But we also understand that adoption is crucial so that is why we invest in support.  We feel if we have a great product it will sell well and with high installation satisfaction, limited failure to adopt.

Where are you based?

London and Luton

When was the company launched?

2014

What have been your biggest wins to date?

I’d have to say one of our biggest wins to date was our first paying customer.  As always it wasn’t who we thought our first customer would be, and not where we thought they would be located, but we didn’t care.  It was a first paying customer.  And that was epic.  Other big, exciting wins have been café chains and some big brand retails names.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

Originally we would say independent retailers and hospitality businesses.  However, per the above, we have noticed a real shift in the way that business (and consumers for that matter) view technology in the retail and hospitality trade.  As such we could say that now larger chains have shown interest and are starting to experiment with new technology and replace legacy systems.

Tell us about your team?

We’re very lucky that we’ve got a great team of dedicated people.  From the development and operations team who make magic happen, to the committed commercial staff who have such enthusiasm.

What are you long term plans for your company?

We have an ambitious 5 year plan and some exciting goals.  From our core product development roadmap and feature releases, to our sales targets and expanding outside of the UK.  In 5 years’ time, we would like to be at a level where we are seen as a solid competitor in the POS market, with a continually growing customer base, while still focusing on our original ethos of delivering feature rich, cloud POS systems to help businesses grow themselves.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

I’d have to say my iPhone as I am on it most of the time and have an array of apps which makes doing business on the move so easy.  Plus also the ability to control home central heating from your mobile – I still find that incredible!

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

I am not a fan of commuting, so a teleporter would be nice. Would mean a more productive day!  That and decent speech to text to allow fast responses to emails.
