Business Showcase : ServiceScape

Describe the company

ServiceScape is a global marketplace for freelancers and the clients looking to hire them for an outsourced creative project. With freelancers in editing, writing, graphic design, and translation services, ServiceScape offers companies and individuals access to a freelance labor force through an easy online interface and secure payment system. Headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts, ServiceScape is a bootstrapped company that has been promoting and hosting exceptional talent for over 17 years.

How are you different?

We believe that the quality of our freelancers sets us apart from the competition, in addition to the express delivery options for editing services that we offer. With ServiceScape, you can find a freelancer and get proofreading/comprehensive editing service completed within hours of the time you upload the document. This is a huge plus for many of our clients who have quick projects like emails, reports, or essays that are due quickly.

Why will you do well?

We make it easy to hire freelance creatives with a searchable profile directory and an extensive rating system maintained for quality assurance. We also have a blog full of highly informative and useful content about writing, grammar, editing, graphic design, and translation—and plan to expand that blog exponentially over the next few years.

Where are you based?

We are based in Andover, Massachusetts in the USA.

When was the company launched?

The company was launched on June 15, 2000.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We feel that our longstanding reputation as an online marketplace for freelancers is our biggest win. We’ve been in the business since 2000 and look forward to another 17 plus years of growth.

Who are you trying to attract to your product?

Our customers range from college students and academic researchers to small business owners and entrepreneurs seeking top-rated freelancers to help them grow their business. Since adding writers to our freelance directory, we have also attracted a lot of job seekers looking for resume and cover letter writing services.

What tips would you give to others looking to build their business?

Keep making your customers happy. It’s what we do best and hope to continue doing for our long-term business strategy.

Tell us about your team?

While ServiceScape’s website operates with fewer than 5 employees, our directory of freelancers continues to grow as more creatives are brought on board.

What are your plans for the future?

Our future plans are to expand the blog and to redo the graphic design profiles so that they are more image oriented. Translating the interface is also a big project we plan to work on down the road (Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional).

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

We’re pretty impressed with the new iPad and Apple Watch 3.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

A gadget to make winter go away?

It’s been hanging out long enough for 2018!

Anything else you’d like to add/we should have asked?

We are offering two award opportunities this year—a scholarship and a short story award. You can find more information about each by following these links: https://www.servicescape.com/scholarship and https://www.servicescape.com/short-story-award
