 iMindMap 10 – OUT NOW!’

Where are you based?

We’re located in our purpose built HQ, Tec Marina. Our 20,000 sq ft home is situated in Penarth, Cardiff. We wanted a fitting workspace to develop and market our tools. Tec Marina reflects the creativity, productivity, and innovation that we promote daily. With a focus on well-being in the workplace, we have on-site facilities such as a gym, games room and plenty of creative breakout space.

Why will the company/product do well?

Our tools are mass-market solutions that can solve a worldwide problem. More and more reports are proving that global productivity levels are currently at crisis level across all industries. Effective ideation and efficient task management are needed to lift this lull of productivity. Our tools re-engage workers with their jobs, and that is why we will do well.

When was the company launched?

OpenGenius launched in 2006, along with our first product iMindMap. In 2013 we developed DropTask.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

In April this year, we became the first Welsh company to join the London Stock Exchange’s Accelerator programme: ELITE. Being part of LSE’s ELITE programme puts us in an unheard of position, where we have the opportunity to pave the way for other Welsh companies to receive the recognition they deserve.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

Our approach is to promote productivity and creative thinking to the masses, which means we work with a large cross section of society. Our tools aren’t just for the techies, they’re for everyone.

What tips would you give to others looking to build their business?

We believe no idea is a crazy idea. Instead of thinking outside the box, get rid of the box entirely. It’s proven that as we grow older, our ability to think creatively becomes stunted. But, creativity can be re-learned. Gain as many different perspectives as possible, challenge your assumptions and try different approaches. Postpone judgement on unusual ideas because that is when real innovation happens.

Chris TEDx Talk:

Tell us about your team?

Led by Chris Griffiths, an expert in creative thinking and innovation, our team consists of over 40 highly skilled members. We have teams based in Wales and Poland and continue to grow. Right now, recruitment is a major priority for us. We are looking to recruit the brightest talents to join our technical team in order to continue to develop high-quality products that enhance the lives of others. We have recently appointed a new Chief Financial Officer and board member, whose past experience and successes in the SaaS industry will further fuel our plans to grow and succeed.

What are your long term plans for your product/company?

As we as aiming for flotation on the AIM market in the next two years, we are also currently working on a new product. It is going to combine everything we have learned so far, and is set to shake up the future of workplace productivity.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Our HQ has meeting rooms that are fitted with 80” interactive touchscreens ideal for team collaboration. When conducting team brainstorming sessions, we put iMindMap and DropTask on these screens and bring all our best ideas together. We’ve had a lot of lightbulb moments as a result of these meetings.
