By @SimonCocking. Set in the peaceful haven of Heir Island, the Mobius centre offers an ideal location for time out and reflection and focused individual and team development.
Describe the company – the elevator pitch:
The Mobius Centre is set in the peaceful and natural haven of Heir Island, West Cork and offers a stimulating and nurturing environment – perfect for time out and reflection. It provides an ideal space for independently run events, corporate team days, board meetings and events of a more personal nature like yoga, creative writing, art and photography workshops.
With everyday life distractions stripped away and replaced with inspiring views, the Centre presents an opportunity to step into fresh perspectives and bring new light on challenges and opportunities. It is a place where leaders share ideas and talk about what shapes the future; where teams come to experience challenges and develop at an accelerated pace; where individuals gain deeper insight into themselves and simply be.

How are you different?
Our difference is our island location and the stunning views. There is something special when you leave your car on the mainland and take the short ferry journey to the island creating the separation from everyday life distractions, which in itself is invaluable.

Why will it do well?
This is a special space; once people have been here they want to come back and we have already seen this with our corporate and yoga clients. We work closely with Heir Island Sailing School – collaboration has benefited both businesses.
When was the company launched?
The Mobius Centre was launched in 2012 and was the culmination of a long held dream to create a unique space for personal development
Why Heir Island, West Cork?
Sarah’s family first came to Heir Island in 1960’s – she has a long association with the island and very fond memories of holidays spent here. It was her dream to come and live here one day. Careers in the corporate world got in the way for a long time, but being self-employed gave us more freedom. I had always wanted to create a space for learning that was different from the usual conference rooms in hotels. It provided a great opportunity to combine both our dreams.

What have been your biggest wins to date?
The Mobius Centre has become known for a diverse range of purposes all with the common denominator of personal growth including yoga, mindfulness, meditation, corporate clients and transition year students.
We had an event where people traveled from around the world to attend and the same people came back the following year because they enjoyed it so much loved what the island has to offer. That really proved to us that we had succeeded in creating the special type of environment that we had set out to achieve.
What type of people / market segment are you trying to attract?
Those who have a commitment to personal growth and changing the world for the better.

Tell us about your team
Founded by Paul and Sarah Matthews in 1993, Mobius now has a group of experienced facilitators and coaches who serve clients worldwide. Collectively we bring a diverse range of experience and skills, aligned around deeply held shared values and a passion for leadership development.
What are your long term plans for the centre?
Our expansion is different to most companies – we want growth for others.
Our ultimate goal is for many more people to share in the experience of being here, which will offer them the opportunity to become more aware of their purpose, their vision, their passion and their health, enabling them to live a full and happy life.

What are your favourite gadgets?
A chair to meditate and a mat for yoga, however a true gadget would be my phone. Favourite uses? Staying up to date on the sports news and identifying planes flying overhead.
What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?
A gadget that will inform people about our upcoming events so they miraculously flock here.
