Okay, but do they post about an argument with their wives? Do they post about having a bad day from start to finish? Do they share their negative thoughts and anxious moments with their followers? Of course not.

A majority of people treat social media as a way to improve their own image in the eyes of others. They fail to mention negative aspects of their life and everyone thinks their Instagram posts are a reality.

Everyone has bad days and you shouldn’t adhere to anyone’s standards but your own. Just do your best and ignore all the posts you see from people – they’re most likely not real.

The best way to protect your life from social media influence is by shielding yourself from typical marketing tactics. Other than unrealistic expectations from seeing other people’s posts, aggressive marketing is the bigger danger to our self-esteem.

  1. Channel jealousy into inspiration

No matter how much we curb our consumerist urges, we can’t help but feel a bit jealous when we see someone else having more than we do.

Don’t feel bad – jealousy is an important emotion and one of the key steps towards success. When you see something you want, think about what you can do to achieve that same thing. Let’s take purchasing a new car for example.

The situation is – you see an old high school friend buying a new Chevy and posting about it on Facebook. Instead of letting yourself be influenced negatively, take a different approach.

Research about the car, what are the payment options and make a plan. Work hard, do your best and you will achieve anything. Jealousy, rage and similar negative feelings are natural. It’s what you do with them that counts. Remember that.

When you wake up in the morning, don’t be anxious. Make a cup of coffee, sit on the balcony and watch the sun rise. Stop for a moment and think about the things you have. You have running water to make coffee with.

You have your favorite mug that you drink from every morning. There is also the indispensable comfortable bed, your favorite blankets and much more. The point is – you have everything you need. That’s something a majority of people can’t say.

Everything else is excess and “icing on the cake.” If you don’t have an expensive car, don’t let social media influence you into taking a big loan just so you can quench your thirst for material possessions. Be grateful for what you have and never stop working hard. That way, nothing is impossible.

Social media takes over our lives when we sit idly and do nothing. The moment you have goals and a full day of working and planning, you will suddenly forget to check all of your favorite platforms.

The taste of success and the vision of you achieving what you want is the most powerful thing in existence. Start with a set of simple goals like – go to the store or take out the garbage.

Once you accomplish one thing, the others will follow. Just like video games have levels of increasing difficulty, life does too. In reality, however, you will stop realizing all the obstacles and quickly eradicate the influence of social media on your life.
