32% of Irish SMEs already using Cloud Technology and a further 39% have plans to move

71% of SMEs in Ireland are either already using or have plans to adopt cloud computing technologies in their business, according to research announced today by Sage Ireland.  This represents a significant increase since April 2013, when the figure was at 38%.

The number of businesses in Ireland that are still unaware of what cloud computing is has dropped from 25% to 17%.

Access to information on the go is the primary reason for investing with 75% citing this as the main driver of cloud adoption.

The research, conducted by iReach Insights, was announced at the launch of the Sage 200 ERP (enterprise resource planning) suite, which has undergone a major re-design.

Jim Scott, Managing Director for the Sage Ireland Small to Medium business segment said, “The huge increase in cloud adoption in the last two years shows that Irish SMEs are seeing the value and the freedom in having access to business-critical information from anywhere, at any time. While the number of businesses with no awareness or plans to invest in cloud is decreasing, they are still a significant cohort of the SME community in Ireland and it’s important that they are provided with the choice of both on premise and online solutions.”
