YouTube today announced the annual list of Ireland’s top trending videos and music videos for the past year. The lists offer an insight into what caught the nation’s attention throughout the year.
As people spent more time at home than ever before this year it’s no surprise that ambitious home upgrade videos featured on the list and topping the list is 60 Days Build Millionaire Underground Swimming Pool House from Mr. Tfue who in this 16 minutes video shows how to build an impressive swimming pool in just 60 days.
The list also features an update from Colin Furze in Backyard Underground Bunker Tour/Update 5 years on the fully functioning home bunker he built in his garden five years ago.
The second most popular video of the year was an emotional video from This Morning, in which Phillip Schofield Opened up About being gay.
In the video, which is a clip from the show, presenter Philip Schofield speaks for the first time about being gay in a chat with co-presenter Holly Willougby. He explains how the discussion with his wife and children went after he opened up to them.
In a year when laughs were much needed Irish comedy stars Foil, Arms and Hog’s timely ‘Quarantine Maths Disaster’ showed the perils of online classes and was one of the most-watched videos in Ireland this year.
The Graham Norton show also provided some laughs with Lee Mack’s infamous ‘Kent’ joke leaving John Cleese in near tears. Ant and Dec go undercover on The Chase for Saturday Night Takeaway to play the ultimate prank on Bradley Walsh who can’t believe he has fallen for the pair’s pranks for a second time.
The rise of the content creator shows no signs of stopping with several entries on the list from high profile YouTube creators.
American creator MrBeast is known for his stunts and in ‘Anything You Can Fit In The Circle I’ll Pay For’ he combines his love of philanthropy and stunts as he makes a number of surprising charitable donations.
Sidemen are a group of British YouTube creators and their reunion after lockdown Sidemen Reunited Mukbang was the fifth most popular video in Ireland this year.
Closing out this year’s list is Dutch YouTube vlogger Nikkies Tutorials who reveals she’s transgender in the emotional I’m Coming Out, opening by saying she had always wanted to share her story under her own circumstances but having the opportunity taken away she wanted to reclaim her own power.
In a challenging year, music has offered an escape for many people and while live music has been put on hold for much of the world YouTube is a medium that has been here to help people stay entertained throughout.
As the end of the year draws closer the top music videos showcase the musical tastes of the country over the past 12 months.
Topping the Top 10 Music Videos is Future ft. Drake with Life is Good. This is the first collaboration for the famous duo since 2018 and the video which sees them both try their hands at a number of jobs was directed by Canada’s Director X. Joel Corry features twice on the list with Head & Heart and Lonely.
Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s Rain on Me was one of the biggest hits of the year and also comes in at number seven on the most-watched videos of the year list.
