Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival is calling on young film fans to apply to become a Fantastic Flix Young Film Programmer

Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival (Virgin Media DIFF) is calling on young film fans to get involved and apply to become a Fantastic Flix Young Film Programmer. The Young Programmers initiative offers 15-19 year-olds the chance to understand all aspects of film programming, marketing, exhibition and distribution. It also gives them the opportunity to curate, host and influence the Fantastic Flix strand. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 14 December. Being a young programmer is a unique role where you will step into the shoes of filmmakers and audiences alike. The Young Programmers will meet for a number of modules between December and February to curate a programme of short films and watch and recommend new films for the Festival. The Young Programmers will also have an opportunity to learn from industry professionals, help to write programme notes and host events during the 2019 Festival, which will take place from 20 February-3 March 2019.

The module timetable includes:

1. Dec 19: Getting Started: Introduction and Short Film Viewing

2. Jan 9: Youth Representation and Short Film Viewing

3. Jan 16: Other Voices 1: Women in Film & Disability on Film and Short Film Viewing

4. Jan 23: Other Voices 2: Queer Cinema & Black Cinema and Short Film Viewing

5. Jan 30: Copy & Promotion and Final Short Film Deliberations

6. Feb 6: Feature Film Viewing Session

7. Feb 13: Hosting a Festival Experience

Fantastic Flix is the young people’s strand of Virgin Media DIFF, featuring an engaging line-up of Irish and international films for audiences aged four – 16, as well as workshops and side-events curated not just to entertain children and parents, but also to provide young audiences with access to a greater range of cultural cinema and filmmaking talent through a unique festival experience.

Over the past 16 years, Dublin International Film Festival has showcased the work of Ireland’s very talented producers, directors, screenwriters and actors. It has hosted over 600 major guests, including winners of the festival’s prestigious Volta Award such as Al Pacino, Julie Andrews, Danny DeVito, Daniel Day-Lewis, Joss Whedon, Brendan Gleeson, Angela Lansbury, Stanley Tucci, Stellan Skarsgård, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ennio Morricone. The 2019 Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival will bring the world’s best films to Dublin in its spectacular 17th edition that will include world premieres and a total of over 110 features.

The full festival programme will be revealed in January along with a very special surprise film event.
