videoDoc, an Irish online doctor service, today announced the launch of an online physiotherapy service. This new addition to the videoDoc service aims to provide a resource for patients to improve their physical and general health in order to increase their overall quality of life, particularly in the workplace.
A 2016 ESRI study found that the two largest categories of work-related illness reported by workers were musculoskeletal disorders and stress, anxiety and depression. According to the research, the mean number of days absent for musculoskeletal disorders is 15.9.
The online physio service will be offered by specially trained physiotherapists through the videoDoc platform who practice in musculoskeletal medicine, ergonomics and occupational health. All physiotherapy treatments are evidence-based with the ability to create reactive treatments and promote proactive health and intervention.
Ross Tomkins, Clinical Lead for the videoDoc physiotherapy service, believes the service can greatly improve employee wellbeing: “Since 2006 we have delivered fast track access to a top class rehabilitation service. Now, we have developed a team to provide an online service helping people and businesses in Ireland and the UK.
By providing a unique video experience to the videoDoc service user, we are able to identify the correct advice and recommendations to promote a recovery to full function. The video platform allows us to view the service user and assess their range of movement and watch them perform tests and activities. This has significant potential benefits to traditional telemedicine delivery, improving the user experience by increasing the engagement in their consultation and assessment.
We advocate the importance of providing musculoskeletal rehabilitation services to ensure the health and well-being of the workforce and general public.”
After the analysis of an individual case, the physiotherapists will design a bespoke rehabilitation plan that includes functional exercise videos for the patient. Following on from this, the physiotherapist will additionally include recommendations for case management for the patient’s employer such as estimated time off, number of sessions required, and alternative duties.
Treatments on offer range from reactive treatment, proactive treatment, remote care management, video consultation and assessment, and functional movement screening. All tele-rehabilitation is dependent on the needs of the individual. Further assessment and treatment based on a patient’s clinical history will be agreed upon by the respective physiotherapist along with the appropriate next steps agreed.
The service is available now can be accessed by registering at videoDoc.ie , selecting ‘Specialists’ and making an appointment with a physiotherapist. The 35 minute long sessions will cost €40 .
