Panasonic has announced the addition of a new video-centric body to its LUMIX S full-frame mirrorless camera range. Designed and developed specifically for film production, the LumixS1H delivers the flexibility of cinema-quality video in a highly mobile mirrorless camera body.
The new body is expected to hit the shelves in autumn 2019, and is the first camera of its kind to offer 6K/24p (3:2 aspect ratio) or 5.9K/30p (16:9 aspect ratio) video recording, and the first full-frame digital interchangeable lens system camera to enable 10-bit 60p 4K/C4K cinema-quality video recording.
Featuring V-Log/V-Gamut with a wide dynamic range covering 14 stops, the LUMIX S1H will offer film-makers a wide colour space with rich gradation on a par with Panasonic’s Cinema VariCam, delivering true cinema-style results from an impressively compact setup. V-Log footage from the S1H is compatible with V-Log footage recorded on VariCam and V-Log L footage recorded on the LUMIX GH5/GH5S — offering outstanding flexibility for film-makers.
LUMIX S1 gets enhanced video features
In tandem with the announcement of the S1H, Panasonic is also giving owners of existing LUMIX S1 full-frame mirrorless cameras access to some of the S1H’s enhanced video features through an optional software update.
Some of the enhancements included in the update are:
– 14+ stops of V-Log recording
– World’s first 4:2:2 10-bit 4K MOV 30p/25p internal video recording
– World’s first 4:2:2 10-bit 4K 60p/50p*1 HDMI output
– V-Log and V-Gamut compatible with Cinema VariCam Look
– In-camera LUT (Look Up Table) application enabling playback of V-Log while or after recording (LUT Display with Custom Function)
– A WFM (Waveform Monitor) displays brightness level while recording
– High-res 48-kHz/24-bit or 96-kHz/24-bit sound can be recorded in MOV using the XLR Microphone Adaptor DMW-XLR1
Existing LUMIX S1 owners and new purchases in Ireland and the UK will be able to avail of the upgrade free of charge from 01 July 2019 to 30 September 2019. From 01 October onwards the upgrade will cost GB£179 (c. €200).
