Údarás na Gaeltachta approve over €1.4m in COVID-19 support

Údarás na Gaeltachta has approved over €1.4m in vital COVID-19 supports for Gaeltacht companies over the past few months in order to assist them in counteracting the challenges created by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Over 390 Gaeltacht companies have benefited from Údarás na Gaeltachta’s COVID-19 schemes to date to assist with securing funding for their businesses, to undertake financial planning, and to assist them in accessing global sales markets online.

Currently, as the second wave of the COVID-19 virus results in additional lockdown measures, Údarás na Gaeltachta is advising Gaeltacht companies to ensure completion of financial planning and business improvement measures as soon as possible.

Údarás na Gaeltachta’s executives are providing Gaeltacht companies with a wide range of supports to assist in mitigating the effects of COVID-19.

Eligible companies can avail up to €7,500 in consultancy advice at no cost to the business to assist them in preparing a financial plan and implementing lean business processes.

Support Funding

Up to €490,000 of COVID-19 support funding has been provided to businesses by Údarás na Gaeltachta in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland to assist the with financial planning and to make sustaining enterprise funding available to businesses also.

Over €920,000 in financial supports has been approved for 377 Gaeltacht businesses in recent months through Údarás na Gaeltachta’s Online Trading Scheme and the COVID-19 Business Continuity Voucher.

These schemes were financed by funding from Údarás na Gaeltachta, The Department of Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and the Department of Communications, Climate Action, and Environment.

Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh, Chief Executive Officer, Údarás na Gaeltachta, said:

“Over the past few months, Gaeltacht companies have addressed the challenges and difficulties created by COVID-19 with the assistance of Údarás na Gaeltachta executives.

It is more important than ever for companies to increase their planning and remedial efforts especially with Brexit looming, difficulties with cash flow, investments, and trading.

Advice and financial assistance have been provided in an effort to recover from such difficulties. Although this period has created huge challenges, it has

also created opportunities as companies sell their products online to customers in Ireland and further afield.”
