I’m a store manager for Aldi and have a huge passion for photography and tech equipment. I’m a self-taught photographer and have used the internet and Youtube in the dark with my camera trying to learn something different, the missus always thought I was up to no good. As time moves on so does equipment and software. I like to keep up today’s photography and process techniques.
I will always observe the rules of photography in all regards, but alas I will never be perfect. After all new software takes time to learn as does new equipment so mistakes can be made and have no problem with cc from other photographers. I have been into photography since I was very young and started off with a bridge DSLR Fuji when the technology came along and away from the film. I was a Minolta fan before that and not very good with cameras.
I love Serge Ramelli I think he has one of the keenest eyes in photography and his processing is amazing. He masters his style with great software like Aurora, Photo Matix and many other similar platforms. He uses very simple bracketed (more than one image of the same photo under different exposure) images and creates more of an artistic approach to his Photography. And his photos always stop me in my tracks, I hope to return the favour to him sometime :).
I have a fully kitted Nikon d7000, And a full frame Nikon d750 with 3 lenses, filters etc.. I love the full frame I use that mostly and the quality of the results help with post process. The better the initial shot the less time as I’m at my PC editing. I also shoot bracketed images and process similar to Serge Ramelli. The d750 is better in low lighting and has the capability of taking 9 bracketed shots.
I usually shoot handheld in continuous high, saves messing about with tripod when you don’t have time or space to carry it. Especially when you only have one bag on a Ryan Air flight :). I also like the full frame for other reasons too, you can shoot in raw a little underexposed and still work on it easily in Photoshop and Lightroom and come out with amazing results. Also, there is most probably a photo in the photo that you may not have seen. It very easily makes a photo from a photo in full frame.
Nikon D5 What an amazing spec, but the d810 would do. My next purchase will be sigma 150-600 with 1×4 extender hopefully it will fit into our household budget.

I’m not going to be easily converted from DSLR because I feel the technology for mirrorless is still in its infancy. Maybe a couple of years time it probably will be the star of the show. I have seen some amazing shots from the Fuji XT range which is impressive but I’m a Nikon fan so I’ll wait for their technology. I have Galaxy s8 mobile photo and it’s a little beauty, but unfortunately, it’s only for good use on social media platforms, not good for a large print.
I’m mostly into High Dynamic Range and long exposure shots, They are far more difficult and always a challenge for me. I got them very wrong at the beginning and loved the learning curve. The landscape is my favourite, but I also love derelict too as it works well with my style of photography. As I say if you are not out photographing you are not learning. I only shoot in Manual, I find it awful hard to shoot any other way as I know what I want at any given time from the camera. I’d say my best photography came from cross country walking/hiking to remote locations in the West of Ireland.
On any given day the camera is on my lap or on the passenger seat ready for action. If I’m walking It’s on my shoulder. I live about an hour from two of Ireland biggest photographic attractions The Burren (Co. Clare, Ireland) and Connemara (Co. Galway, Ireland). I’d be out at least 2-3 times a month to these location chasing light, trying to find something new. I have travelled to some great locations all over Ireland but less frequent due to time constraints. On an international scale, I have photographed Bali twice, the second time I was looking for its culture which was an amazing way to travel/photograph.
I have also photographed Thailand, Spain, Portugal, Lanzarote and the list goes on and on. One of the things I’ve come across is people don’t relate to things they haven’t seen before so they are more difficult to showcase. The foreign travel is more a private collection for me and maybe if asked if someone was over at the house for a few beers. That’s when I get to bore the bejesus out of them the most and the missus gives out to me because I’m so passionate about my collective works. Lisa will always come to your rescue when the PC is turned on and we have visitors.
I would gladly take the p30 pro through its paces if Huawei would like to sponsor one 🙂 for review. My next purchase will be sigma 150-600 and a hide, I would love to start stalking the beautiful animals of Ireland. It’s not the dearest (pardon the pun) lens in the world but on a tripod, with the d750 low lighting capability, it would be a little gem. Also, I hope after the length of time I’m into photography my experience would lend a hand in obtaining the end results. This would be the next direction I’d like to take in my experience.
