The advancement of digital tech has made lives easier for individuals and businesses. Unfortunately, it also brought forth a growing rate of criminal activities online.

Security Threats

For the regular user, such attacks could threaten their security and privacy. However, the problem goes deeper for corporations and brands that rely on techs such as cloud storage and servers. Aside from security and privacy concerns, cyber attacks also result in the loss of valuable progress and money within companies.

Whether it be an attack coming from a criminal out for ransom or from an anonymous competitor hoping to take out its rivals, companies are prone to cyber attacks. While it does matter who or where the attack is coming from, companies should prioritize their concerns about whether or not they are well-equipped to prevent such cases.

Big companies are dented by major attacks led by big groups. More often than not, they could recover from such attacks in less than a week. If they are truly prepared, then a single-day fix is possible. For small businesses with limited resources, these problems pose a bigger threat.

Small businesses are rarely prepared for cyber attacks, and there are several reasons as to why that is.

First is that business owners don’t think that hackers would bother with their limited earning capacity. Second is that they would rather take that big risk of being caught off-guard than invest in something they can’t see or feel immediately.

Last but definitely most worrying, small business owners, even some heads of major companies, are unaware of the dangers that lurk in the cyberspace.

Cyber threats are real, but luckily, cybersecurity suites are as well. Both small and big businesses can make use of these solutions to protect themselves from what is bound to happen.

Of course, not everyone is willing to make such an investment, but by understanding how big the threat is, everyone will begin to see the value of cybersecurity.

TechJury compiled a list 2019 cybersecurity statistics to give you a better understanding of how exactly big of a threat cyber attacks have been and how they could be moving forward.

Check it out to stay updated.
Cybersecurity is often seen as one of those big problems that only large entities like banks, tech companies, and governments have to worry about. In reality, a lot more people should be concerned with cybersecurity and not just big corporations. The latter may be indeed responsible for more data. Still, it is the smaller entities, such as companies with less than 1000 employees, that are at the greatest risk.

TechJury compiled a list of cybersecurity statistics to help visualize what is happening in the field as well as what to expect in 2019.

Alarming Cyber Security Statistics

  • It takes half a year to detect a data breach.
  • 43% of all cyber attacks are aimed at small businesses
  • 91% of attacks launch with a phishing email.
  • A business falls victim to a ransomware attack every 14 seconds
  • 38% of malicious attachments are masked as one Microsoft Office type of file or another.
  • Cybercriminals managed to exploit the credit cards of 48% of Americans back in 2016.
  • The global cost of online crime is expected to reach $6 trillion by 2021.
