What was the inspiration to start it?
The World Wide Web was first conceived in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. The first conference of the series, WWW1, was held at CERN in 1994 and organized by Robert Cailliau. The IW3C2 was founded by Joseph Hardin and Robert Cailliau later in 1994 and has been responsible for the conference series ever since.
The Conference aims to provide the world with a premier forum for discussion and debate about the evolution of the Web, the standardization of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture. The conference brings together researchers, developers, users and commercial ventures — indeed all those who are passionate about the Web and what it has to offer.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2018 version?
For the 2018 edition in Lyon, the baseline is “Bridging natural and artificial intelligence worldwide”. Participants can look forward to discussing and building the web of tomorrow. Also, there will be several collocated events such as W4A and a big exhibition and living space where the participants will be able to discuss, network, interact and lots more.
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

Its going to be a great conference : for the research tracks, we have received 1461 abstracts by 4852 authors in 62 countries resulting in 1172 full submissions by 3649 authors in 60 countries!
