When and where is it on?

The Blockchance Conference will take place from 16-17 August 2019 in the historic Chamber of Commerce Hamburg. It is Germany’s first stock exchange. Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city with a metropolitan region of 5 million inhabitants and Europe’s second largest port. It is an economic and scientific hotspot.

How many years has it been going?

We’re in our second year. Last year we were with 350 visitors in the FutureCity Campus in the HefenCity, a sea container village. This year we are right in the city centre next to the town hall and expect 5 times as many guests. If you start a business in Silicon Valley it must be in the garage, the counterpart in Hamburg is definitely the sea container.

What was the inspiration to start it?

I studied computer science 17 years ago. When someone told me about Bitcoin for the first time in 2012, I understood the impact quite well and wanted to have a look at the technology. I then opened the first vegan Christmas market stand in 2013 worldwide accepting bitcoins in Hamburg. It became a catering and two restaurants. The catering business and my young family took me completely in.

Until I then decided at the end of 2017, I need a change of scenery. I wanted to show people the possibilities Blockchain technology offers us as humanity. I wanted to be a part of the digital revolution, which started 30 years ago with the internet. So in 2018, the first time BLOCKCHANCE Conference was born.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

There will be 60 plus speaker and also a large exhibition with 30 plus exhibitors, 2 unique blockchain theatre performances, networking events, a charity auction, workshops and an afterglow party.

Who will be speaking at Blockchance?

We have an amazing speaker line-up among others with Christian Schultze-Wolters, Director for Blockchain Solutions at IBM, Marc Buckley, Consultant of the UN, Tom Lyons, Executive Director of ConsensSys, Dr. Julie Maupin, Director of Social Impact of the IOTA Foundation, Dr. Lukas Repa, Senior Policy Officer of the European Commission, editor-in-chief Jürgen Riek, Angel Versetti, co-founder and CEO of Ambrosus, Svetlana Boyanova, Executive Director of the Institute of Agricultural Strategies and Innovation and former Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

I think it is important to take enough time for the conference. At least you should arrive one day in advance and stay one day longer. One should take the time to fully internalize this so important topic. And also to get to know the beautiful Hanseatic city of Hamburg it is worth staying a little longer.

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?

Tickets you find at www.blockchance.eu/tickets. From next weeks on there will also be crypto payment options. We will probably be sold out by the beginning of August at the latest.
