The 3rd Annual Secure Computing Forum

Data Solutions will host its third annual Secure Computing Forum (SCF) on Thursday, May 14 2015 in the unique Light House Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin 7. Attendees will hear from internationally renowned cyber warfare experts and leading authorities on emerging third platform threats, created by the growing use of mobile data, big data and social media.

The rise of the Third Platform – including such trends as social networking, mobile device proliferation, cloud computing, the internet of things and big data – has increased the potential number of vulnerabilities for employers.

In 2014, more than 1 billion pieces of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) were leaked, representing a 25 per cent increase from the previous year, according to IBM research. Widely publicised hacks – such as Sony and the hack of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre – have brought security trends to the forefront of international news.

The event, hosted by academic and TV presenter Aoibhinn Ní Shuilleabhain, will spur discussions about the possible risks these trends pose to Irish businesses. A selection of world leaders in IT security will explain diverse approaches and real-world experiences that can help IT and security specialists in Irish business and public sector organisations.

Freddy Dezeure, head of CERT-EU, will speak about his experience running pan-European security initiatives. Freddy joined the European Commission in 1987 and set up the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for EU institutions, agencies and bodies in 2011. He will use his knowledge of the current threat landscape to assess the potential impact on Irish organisations.

Other speakers include Jeffrey Moulton, Director of the Cyber Research Centre at Louisiana State University, and Bob Griffin, chief Security Architect of RSA. Bob is particularly active in RSA’s initiatives to address the challenges of new threats and new models for IT.
