TG4 Broadcasting Formula 1 Competition

Last Sunday 23rd of May throughout Ireland, TG4 broadcasted a Formula 1 school competition for the first time.

Teams throughout Ireland of 12 to 18-year-olds prepared for the competition, they designed, built, and raced their own miniature F1 racecar. The one-hour special aired on TG4, presented by Máire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill and John Sharpson.

They followed the various teams as they prepare for the National Finals in April 2021, each member of the team took on their own role as manager engineer or promoter. They were required to take on the tasks and issues that arose, meeting design deadlines, testing prototypes, and of course the actual construction.

This is the 15th year of this competition, and everything the competitors have worked for was revealed on TG4 as Gaeilge. There were 56 teams competing from all over Ireland, with this being the first-ever TV broadcast of the event.

As said by TG4 “When it comes to educating young people in the 4 STEM disciplines, science, technology, engineering and maths, this is without doubt one of the fastest most exciting routes to take.”
