TelecityGroup Ireland today announced the commencement of building works on its new data centre in Blanchardstown, Dublin. The new centre will open in the summer of 2015 and will provide ten new roles in engineering.

TelecityGroup currently employs sixty people in Dublin across three data centres. The fourth data centre will host international, national and metropolitan Tier 1 and 2 carriers, ISPs and content distribution networks, which provide access to transatlantic connectivity.

Maurice Mortell, VP of Emerging Markets & Managing Director of TelecityGroup Ireland, said, “We have seen a significant increase in demand from new and existing customers for high capacity, diverse and low latency connectivity – especially to the United States. It was this high demand for TelecityGroup data centres in Ireland that drove our major expansion in Ireland in 2011. Since this expansion just over three years ago, our business in Ireland has grown considerably. This new Dub 4 data centre is further testament of this success.

“Our centre will offer a high number of connectivity providers and will employ a large engineering team on a 24/7 basis to monitor and maintain the data centre and provide a continuous high level of service.

“We are confident that the resilient power and diverse connectivity options provided by our four data centres plays a key role in attracting global enterprise to Ireland, bringing with it more jobs and investment. The first phase of our fourth data centre in Ireland will be opened in summer 2015 and this will give us plenty of scope to meet demand for the foreseeable future.”

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD said, “This is a very welcome announcement for Dublin. Big data is a sector we have specifically targeted as part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and in recent years we have seen significant growth in this area. Today’s announcement that TelecityGroup is establishing another data centre in Ireland is a very welcome move, and I wish Maurice and the team every success with this investment.”
