Techies4Temple Street is on course to raise a record-breaking €240,000 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital following its annual citywide treasure hunt around Dublin.
Starting at the Aviva Stadium, 186 teams from companies of all sizes, from the smallest start-ups to the biggest multinationals, trekked across the city centre completing different challenges on the ‘Techies Treasure Trail’.
After a three-hour quest, cloud networking company, Arista Networks’ team came out on top and were crowned ‘Ireland’s Smartest Techies’.
The fundraiser, Techies4TempleStreet, now in its fourth year, is organised by Temple Street Foundation with AIB as this year’s ‘Leadership Partner’.
Since the first event in 2015, Techies4TempleStreet has raised over €640,000 for Temple Street. These funds have been put to work in the hospital to help sick children and their families, providing life-saving equipment and services.
Commenting, Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of Temple Street Foundation, said: “This year’s Techies4TempleStreet has been our most successful one yet. My colleagues and I were blown away by the support shown by the wider Irish tech community, and it is always hugely encouraging to see so many familiar faces return year after year, not to mention the many new ones making their debut this year.
“Our 2018 treasure hunt saw us raise a record-breaking €240,000, all of which will go to support the 148,000 patients who come through our doors of Temple Street Children’s Hospital each year.
“On behalf of everyone in Temple Street, we’d like to offer our congratulations to Arista Networks, extend our gratitude to our partners in AIB for their unwavering support, and finally to show our appreciation to the 186 teams and more than 1,500 participants for taking part on the day. Now our only remaining challenge is to find a way to make next year’s treasure hunt even bigger, better and more fun than this year’s.”
Tomás O’Midheach, AIB Chief Operations Officer, said “AIB is delighted to have been lead partner for this year’s Techies 4 Temple Street. This event is a great opportunity to mobilise the wider tech industry as a whole to support and raise much-needed funds for Temple Street. Well done to Ireland’s tech community, and congratulations to Temple Street for what’s always a brilliantly organised event.”
