Tech Week at St. Cecilia’s College Derry

Technology has been at the forefront at St. Cecilia’s College this week. With the help of employers and start-ups, students have been introduced to the technology being used by companies locally, who in some cases are carrying out life-changing work.

One of those companies is Sphere Global based in Campsie. Company founder Sean McNicholl who sees the importance of inspiring young people, said, ”Automation is the second fastest growing sector in the world at present and it is important to me to make the students aware of the opportunities within this field. It inspires me to see the level of interest from all the students, as they are our future.“

Aisling Conaty, Careers Manager at St. Cecilia’s College commented, “The week has shown our students the opportunities that currently exist, as well as those that will exist in the future and how to prepare for those careers. This has been such an inspiring event for our students and staff.”

School Employer Connections who worked closely on the event said, “The success of this event is testimony to the employers that we have on our doorstep. I have no doubt that by working hand in hand with schools, our employers can help shape the future of our economy.”
Students will also spend time with InVision based at the Northern Ireland Science Park, with headquarters in Dusseldorf seeing technology in action.

One student summed up the week by saying, “We’ve been given a glimpse of the future. It’s up to us to take advantage.”
