Tech Expo taking place to Highlight Careers in Technology Industry

Following on from yesterday’s announcement regarding their ICT training programme which will allow students “earn and learn” as they prepare for a career in the Tech sector, FIT together with SOLAS and the Educational Training Boards have announced details of a Tech Career Fair which will take place on December 9^th from 10am – 12pm in the Minerva Suite in the RDS.

 “At FIT we have long understood that some people favour learning while doing and these new courses will enable people to begin careers in the technology industry as part of the education process. Employers will influence the skills provided as part of the FIT ICT Associate Professional qualification, which means that those who complete the courses will have the right expertise and will already have spent time in the work environment.” said Peter Davitt, CEO, FIT.

“Research tells us that there are as many as 5,000 existing vacancies appropriate for people with the qualification, so we look forward to bringing it on stream for the first 200 students in locations in Dublin, the mid-lands and Cork early next year in advance of a national rollout. At the RDS on December 9th, we’ll be explaining exactly what’s involved and would urge people to register their interest in attending at www.fit.ie,” he continued.

Attendees of next week’s expo will hear from a range of industry speakers as they learn about the new FIT ICT Associate Professional courses. They will have an opportunity to engage with companies with open roles, learn from experts on the subject of CV and interview preparation, and bolster their knowledge around the use of social media in search of a job. Companies such as Accenture, Fujitsu, IBM, Microsoft and SAP will give attendees an insight into pursuing a career in technology.

The FIT ICT Skills Audit validated something that we have known for years – not all IT skills require degree level qualifications. There are lots of opportunities for people with proficient technical skills.”
