Here at Irish Tech News, we love to promote Women in STEM and also diversity. This great guest post by Nupur Mallick, HR Director TCS UK & Ireland emphasises this.
I am delighted to share that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has become a signatory to the Diversity Charter Ireland. The Charter was signed by Venkatesh Priyadarshi, Regional Manager, Ireland and Christine Carty, our Irish HR Business Partner who have both worked hard to provide an inclusive and diverse TCS organisation.
By signing the Charter, we voluntarily commit to effective diversity management and pledge to prevent discrimination. The reach of the Charter extends beyond TCS itself into the wider environment and community where we operate – we hope to encourage all our stakeholders to join us in promoting equality.
Internationally, our commitment to diversity and inclusion is well known. Earlier this month, TCS was recognised as one of the UK’s leading employers for women in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women.
In 2010, we placed a renewed emphasis on diversity and inclusion globally. Our entire global workforce – including our most senior managers – are actively involved in this corporate function. Experienced leaders act as role models and overall the programme works to demonstrate the positive impact that diversity has on our business. We believe that everyone wins when an organisation is diverse – from the employees to the customers.
TCS employs over 100,000 women globally – that’s a third of our total workforce. Our Rising Stars programme has helped women with between three and five years of experience to thrive by pairing them with coaches who work with them one-to-one. We also have other programmes for those with more experience who are looking to move their careers to the next level – including the Pathways to Success workshop for those with between five and eight years of experience.
Our commitment extends beyond gender to include all aspects of diversity. We are fortunate to have a multinational workforce, with people from all cultural backgrounds and with different experiences contributing to our vibrant culture. As part of the Diversity Charter Ireland, a company promises to ‘endeavour to reflect the diversity of society at every level of our organisation’. This is something we have prioritised at TCS since our foundation.
