Sustainability certification for computers, mobile devices, and other IT products

TCO Certified is the leading global sustainability certification for computers, mobile devices, and other IT products. 3,500 product models are already certified.

Purchasers can receive notifications of products that are certified and meet predefined parameters to help their sustainability work.

TCO Certified Development: Extension of online database

To help purchasers of IT products make more sustainable and informed product choices, TCO Development, the organization behind TCO Certified, has extended its online database called Product Finder to include measurable sustainability performance data for certified products.

With the new subscription feature, organizations receive notifications from Product Finder on certified products that meet individually predefined sustainability parameters.

TCO Certified: Data on certified products

Available data on certified products include:

  • Percentage of post-consumer recycled plastic content
  • Energy consumption
  • Battery cycles
  • Weight, size, resolution, and more
  • Product Finder also offers a feature that calculates use phase CO2 emissions and energy costs.

“With the subscription function, purchasers can be at the frontline of sustainable procurement, staying up to date with the latest certified models,” explains Clare Hobby, Purchaser Engagement Manager at TCO Development.

When a product is certified according to the criteria in TCO Certified, which also includes an independent verification system, specific data is generated.

Through Product Finder, data becomes available to purchasing organizations of certified products and can be used in their decision making, communication, and sustainability reporting.

“Independent verification organizations we work with spend more than 20,000 hours per year verifying that products and their manufacturing facilities comply with the criteria in TCO Certified. This comprehensive verification system makes TCO Certified the most robust and reliable certification available for IT products,” Hobby says.

Criteria in TCO Certified are updated every three years in order to stay current with technical development and the most pressing sustainability challenges. This way, purchasers can be sure that using TCO Certified has a direct sustainability impact.

“With more than 3,500 certified products, purchasers can use TCO Certified with confidence, knowing they have a direct impact on the sustainability for many of the IT products they source,” Hobby adds.

Search for certified products and subscribe to product data here.
