See more about the book here.
Mark van Rijmenam tackles this current and relevant topic at a good time in relation to the amount of hype of project about how it might affect us and our lives. The structure of the book is helpful and the prose informative. The author describes the issues well and the book is an easy read.
The harder question is how soon these things will come to pass. Some writers have pointed out that wearing a VR headset is like having a brick strapped to your head. How long do we want to be in that state. It is understandable the potentially exciting possibilities of what the metaverse could offer, but, and this maybe an unpopular view, surely virtual realities are only more appealing if your actual lived reality is hard, brutal and unappealing. The potential commercial opportunities are outlined are theoretically possible, but surely there will still be the appeal of living in the real world too – at least until global warming and climate change make that less appealing?
