When and where is it on?
4-8pm, Thursday 26th of April in the Council Chamber, Civic Centre, Main Street, Ballymun.
How many years has it been going?
This is the 3rd year now and our 6th event. We host two events per year.
What was the inspiration to start it?
Firstly the objective of StartUp Ballymun is to promote enterprise in Ballymun and nearby. The inspiration arose from the Your Business Day events in the Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin which Liam Barry and Billy Linehan had co-organised for Dublin City Enterprise Board.
These were very successful day long events. Would-be entrepreneurs, startups and business owners could drop in and access free business mentoring, information from several business support agencies and government departments. And listen to over 30 business owners relate the stories of their business growth on a series of themed speaker panels.
The StartUp Ballymun events are a mini version of the Your Business Day events comprising of a the same three elements, free quality advice and information combined with the shared experiences of not so “ordinary” business owners.
What exciting things can people look forward to?
Expert advice on exporting, and free business mentoring. StartUp Ballymun highlights the business owner, focuses on having authentic business owners speaking on a panel of entrepreneurs, telling the stories of their businesses warts and all, sharing their knowledge and experience. The real thing! Digital business one2one advice from highly skilled practitioners. At the last event we had members of the IBM Digital Sales Team joining us to advise on digital business marketing. This time we will have digital business experts conducting social media audits in real-time, and advising on maximizing your digital marketing activities.
What opportunities are on offer for those attending?
A stimulus. Encouraging business owners to think differently about their business, at whatever stage it is at. Listen and learn from the experience of others, adapt to suit your business circumstance and apply. Accelerated learning, fast track to build your business, learn from the panel of entrepreneurs to avoid other’s mistakes.
Specifically the theme for this event is “Export to Win”.
What are the export opportunities for your business, how do you take the first steps, what grant aid and other supports are available? What about Brexit?
Benefits of exporting:
- Increase profitability, and sales.
- Diversify risks selling to a wider geographical spread that lessens the impact from local downturns.
- Grow and avail of economies of scale and lower production costs.
- Small firms can learn important new skills from exporting, and competing in new markets.
- Increase Lifetime of Products or Services, as a product reaches maturity at home you can launch it elsewhere.
Who will be speaking?
Speakers will range from early stage exporters to established export businesses.
StartUp Ballymun has a reputation for the quality and variety of the panel of entrepreneurs.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
