If you missed it last week, I posted a piece about Snapchat marketing and what you need to know about it before you make the decision of hopping on board. While Snapchat as a potential marketing tool may not be for every business and is still nowhere near being a main tool however I mentioned that we should go to where people pay attention.
In early January news broke that Snapchat users were racking up seven billion video views per day. The number has already jumped up to eight billion according to re/code sources who heard CEO Evan Spiegel speak with bankers and analysts Monday afternoon at Morgan Stanley’s Media & Telecom conference in San Francisco.
Last may Snapchat was on two billion daily videos. The newest figures mean that Snapchat is serving the same number of daily videos as Facebook. It is possible that Facebook’s numbers may have risen as we have not heard from them since November, however Snapchat is without a doubt closing in fast and with a much smaller audience.
Snapchat currently boasts 100 million daily users which pales somewhat in comparison to Facebook’s more than a billion daily active users. The conference was closed to the public however re/codes’s source also say that another piece of interesting data was shared. Snapchat users spend an average of 30 minutes plus on the app every day.
This is a huge amount of time when you consider how fast social networking moves at the moment. At the moment it seems like there is more a chance of content being consumed on Snapchat with more of a success rate.
Snapchat also seems to be reaching more mature audiences too. When it initially launched it was seen by many people (myself included) as the app for teens. However, more than half of the new users signing up to Snapchat at the moment are over the age of 25. Snapchat appears to be growing and maturing at a very fast rate, it will be interesting to see where they stand towards the end of this year.
