Smart Energy Programme launched in Australia

Startupbootcamp, the first Australian startup accelerator programme has been launched on August 3.

Focusing on accelerating energy startups in smart grid; sustainable cities & living; smart buildings & infrastructure; IoT & connectivity; energy sharing & trading; big data & advanced analytics; blockchain and artificial intelligence & machine learning industries, the program has gained backing from companies including EnergyAustralia, Spotless Group, DiUS, KHQ Lawyers, Amazon Web Services, Cisco as well as the Victorian Government through LaunchVic.

Dr. Alan Finkel, nation’s Chief Scientist has released the Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market  and explains that innovations are essential for the future of the country. Australia’s National Electricity Market must innovate and evolve while reducing emissions and managing costs.

Melbourne startups have the ambition of disrupting the global industry. Statistics show that they have an average of 8.6 connections to the top global ecosystems compared with a global average of 6.0. 40% of these startups offer products never created in the world, on the other side 36% is the world average of new creations. Fresh thinking and innovation is essential to the market.

Regarding to the partnerships created for the project, Hon Philip Dalidakis, Victorian Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade said: “Victorian startups will play a major role in building a renewable, affordable and reliable energy sector. This aligns very well with the Andrews Labor Government’s energy target which will create up to 11,000 jobs and drive an estimated $9 billion in investment.”
