Review of The Art of Possible, by Kate Tojeiro

By @SimonCocking. A book that could be useful to those looking to launch a new idea, product or startup. Written by Kate Tojeiro, available here

Everyone – irrespective of their talent, age, wealth or privilege – has to face their fears at some point in life, and conquer things that they previously considered unimaginable. It might be a new career, a promotion, an adventure or learning a new skill, but in order to realise our full potential the key is getting one’s mind to a state of becoming “comfortable with discomfort,” pushing past our boundaries and exposing ourselves to different experiences.

An insightful new book, The Art of Possible, has been published to help everyone to understand how the brain works using the latest findings of neuroscience, in order to recognise what is really possible in their everyday life and develop the “can do” attitude required to achieve goals, faster.

This is an interesting book, dealing with something both very simple and yet also very hard. How to change what we do, how we live, and the things that we spend our time on. It’s a challenge in a book like this to not just offer simplistic platitudes about how we can all have the lives we’d like to have.

Tojeiro recognises this and aims to offer the reader practical exercises to achieve the changes they are striving to achieve. There is a clear emphasis on the fact that this is not easy to achieve, and discomfort and unease are an integral part of successfully achieving any changes and life goals. It’s also important to realise that it’s simply not possible to have all the answers. Elon Musk recently commented that he launched Tesla and Space X that they were less than 50% likely to succeed, but even so he felt it was a challenge worth taking on.

This is probably the best way to approach doing things that haven’t been done before. It might succeed, it might not, but you will never know if you don’t try to achieve it. Generally too once you actually begin visualising the path to what you are trying to achieve, you then begin problem solving and encountering other people who are willing to help you along the way too.

“This book is not to be missed – insights that will change your approach to dealing with everyday challenges. Kate makes the complex simple and the impossible achievable.” René Carayol MBE
