Refurbed, Europe’s fastest growing online marketplace for refurbished electronic devices, has today announced the Irish launch of its line of refurbished video game consoles. Customers can view the range of models on the company’s website, which includes both newer and classic, much loved video game consoles such as the Super Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox.
Customers can get their gaming on while availing of a 30-day trial period to test the console. Refurbed also offers a minimum warranty of 12 months to ensure consumers are completely satisfied with their purchase. On top of this, refurbed products are up to 40% cheaper compared to other marketplaces, which offer similar consoles.
Gamers across Europe have leaped at the opportunity to purchase game consoles at a reduced price compared to buying a new one. Currently, refurbed’s most popular consoles include the below, with PlayStation and Nintendo being the most popular brands being the chosen brands for 89% of refurbed’s gaming console customers.
PlayStation 4 Pro – 30% (of total video game console sales)
Xbox One X – 6%
Nintendo New 3DS XL – 5.2%
Nintendo DS Lite – 5%
Nintendo Game Boy Classic – 3%
In addition to this launch, refurbed have revealed some interesting trends around consumer behaviours. Refurbed found that those who have bought refurbished devices within their European markets have done so because of their affordable prices.
Refurbed have found that already 1 in 4 Irish consumers have purchased a refurbished device with 1 in 2 people considering buying a refurbished electronic device. The impact on the environment and the reduction of their carbon footprint is one of the main reasons that an Irish consumer would purchase a refurbished device.
Refurbed undertake a 40-step refurbishment process to ensure all products are restored to factory settings compared to most stores, which sell retro consoles second hand and, in some cases, provide no product warranty. Equally important to Irish customers is the value they get when purchasing consoles, with almost 67% of Irish people stating price as a very important factor when purchasing electronics. With refurbed’s consoles being sustainable, cheaper and warrantied, this is a great new offering to Irish consumers.
The refurbishment process reduces carbon emissions by 70% compared to the manufacturing of a new electronic device. This means that Irish gamers will be able to buy their favourite gaming console and have a positive impact on the environment.
Additionally, refurbed plants a tree with every purchase to offset any carbon emissions during the refurbishment process. That means customers will be able to help rebuild Ireland’s forests by choosing to have a native tree planted that will assist in creating habitats and ecosystems for local wildlife.
Pádraig Power, refurbed’s marketing manager for Ireland said, “We’re delighted to bring our range of fully refurbished video game consoles to the Irish market. Irish gamers can now revisit some of their favourite games and buy consoles at discounted prices, while also making a positive contribution to the environment. We also hope in the future to stock the current newest generation consoles such as Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
“This is something we have been working hard towards since our launch in Ireland just over a year ago and has been in high demand from customers. Looking at the latest consumer trends from Ireland and our other European markets, it is clear that consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious when buying electronic devices.
“As a result of this, we are also in the process of reviewing further product offerings in the Irish market as consumer demand increases for sustainable alternatives. As Ireland and Europe’s leading online refurbished e-commerce site, we want to make sure that we can offer these options to all customers who wish to avail of refurbished products.”
